’Lech Wałęsa’ 

Grupa Wielkokwiatowe Wcześnie Kwitnące • Ta odmiana to prawdziwa gratka dla ogrodowych koneserów. Jest chętnie uprawiana 

w kolekcjach zarówno ze względu na nazwę, jak i wyjątkowe kwiaty o średnicy 20 cm. Mają niespotykany, trudny do uchwycenia na 

zdjęciach kolor – są jasne, niebieskofioletowe, ciemniejsze na brzegach, a prawie białe w środku. Brzegi działek są pofalowane, a ich 

końce lekko przewijają się, nadając roślinie oryginalny wygląd. Przypominają wyglądem kwiaty lilii. Kwitnie obficie w VI, słabiej latem 

i jesienią aż do X, na wysokości 1,3 m do szczytu rośliny. Dorasta do 2-3 m wysokości. Preferuje miejsca jasne, ale bez bezpośrednie-

go nasłonecznienia, osłonięte od wiatrów. Odmiana wrażliwa na zalanie korzeni, dlatego sadząc ją, należy zapewnić bardzo dobry 

drenaż. W sprzedaży od 2004 r.  Odmiana odznaczona złotym medalem na wystawie Plantarium 2005 w Holandii. 

Uzyskała swoją nazwę z okazji 25-lecia powstania NSZZ „Solidarność” ze względu na wygląd działek kwiatów zamaszyście rozcho-

dzących się na boki i przypominających wąsy Lecha Wałęsy – pierwszego przewodniczącego związku. Oficjalnego nadania imienia 

dokonała Danuta Wałęsa podczas wystawy „Zieleń to Życie” w 2004 r.  

Early Large-flowered Group • This cultivar is a true gem for gardening connoisseurs. It is often chosen for collections both because of its name 

and exceptional flowers reaching 20 cm in diameter. They are of an unusual colour, difficult to capture in a photo – they are pale blue-violet with 

darker margins and nearly white in the middle. Wavy sepal edges and recurving tops give the flowers an unusual, lily-like appearance. ’Lech Wa-

łęsa’ blooms profusely in June, slowly receding throughout summer and autumn till October. Flowers are borne from the height of 1.3 m to the 

top of the plant. Reaches 2-3 m. Preferred sites are well-lit but not exposed to direct sunlight and protected from the wind. This cultivar requires 

well-drained soil as it does not tolerate its roots submerged. Introduced in 2004. Awarded gold medal at Plantarium 2011 exhibition in Holland.  

’Lech Wałęsa’  cultivar was named to celebrate 25th anniversary of Solidarity trade union and to honour Lech Wałęsa – its first leader, 

whose signature moustache spread as vigorously as the cultivar’s sepals. The official plant naming ceremony took place at the exhi-

bition 'Green is Life' in 2004 and was led by Danuta Wałęsa.
