Late Large-flowered GroupClematis 'Taiga'PBR |
An intriguing new cultivar of double, extravagant flowers. Blooms abundantly in summer. A valuable adornment of any type of a garden or a terrace. WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE: Flowers highly decorative, violet-blue with green-yellow petal tips, always double, of varying shape. Free-flowering in VI, continues until IX. Leaves dark green, of entire margins, either single, cordate, or compound, trifoliate, consisting of elliptic, pointy leaflets. HOW IT GROWS: A climber; uses leaf petioles for climbing. Reaches 2-2.5 m height. WHERE TO PLANT: Thrives in sunny but not overheated sites. Prefers fertile, moist and well-drained soil of a neutral or slightly acidic pH. Sufficiently hardy (zone 6–9). HOW TO PLANT AND MAINTAIN: Before planting immerse the plant container in water for 10-30 min. Place the root ball in a 60 x 60 x 60 cm hole with a 10 cm layer of pebbles and gravel at the bottom. Cover the roots with a bucket of well-rotten manure or compost and fill up with fertile soil. Place the plant base 5–10 cm deeper than it was before. Plant at least 30 cm from walls and other plants. The base should be in a shade. Cover the ground around the new plants with bark mulch and for winter protection pile it up to 10 cm. At the end of February or the beginning of March remove dead shoots and prune hard the live ones: in the first year around 30 cm from the base, above the stronger buds, in the second year – 40 cm, and 50 cm in following seasons. In April fertilize with Osmocote 5-6 M, water adequately in vegetative season. HOW TO APPLY: Recommended for training along free-standing supports or those attached to walls as well as in large containers in balconies and terraces. ORIGIN: Raised by Shigeaki Ochiai in Japan. In the market since 2016. AWARDS: Silver medal and the Press Prize at Plantarium 2016 exhibition. SIMILAR CULTIVARS: ‘Kaiser’, ‘Teshio’, ‘Blue Light’, ‘Hakuookan’.
