A popular, long and profusely flowering climber. Tubular, fragrant, rosy-red flowers flushed with yellow at the centre, borne in whorls at the ends of shoots from June to September. Leaves obovate, green, the upper pair perfoliate, forming a disc subtending the inflorescence. Reaches a height of 3 m with 1 m of annual growth. It doesn't have any special soil requirements. In May it's often subject to attack by aphides, especially when grown in dry and sunny positions. Well suited for scrambling over arbors, pergolas and other supports.
