A vigorous climber with unusual flowers of about 12 cm in diameter. Flowers are flat, with white petals, sometimes shaded with green, and very ornamental, long outer filaments with colourful circles, purple at the base, followed by white, and finally blue at the top. Flowers are fragrant. Blooms throughout the summer into an early autumn. Orange-yellow, oblong fruits are edible, though not very tasty. Semi-evergreen leaves with 5-7 deeply cut lobes. It holds on to supports with twining tendrils. It requires a sheltered, warm sunny position and fertile, well-drained soil. Often subject to attack by spiders. It sustains temperature drops down to around -5o C. It should be wintered in a place protected from frost. Recommended for growing in containers on terraces and balconies and in winter gardens.
