A charming cultivar with interesting flowers: semi-double, bell shaped, nodding, dark violet, almost black during April-June, with occasional flowers in August. During summer and autumn the plant is adorned with decorative silky seed heads. A very hardy plant with low requirements. Ideal for growing over fences, walls, or scrambling over rocks and old stumps. Particularly useful for planting near small trees and coniferous or deciduous shrubs. Looks lovely against bright background, e.g. yellow leafed or yellow flowered plants. Makes good ground cover.
