A perennial climber with beautiful campanulate flowers, the outside of the sepals being scarlet with the inner side a deep pink. In full bloom yellow stamens become visible. Flowers profusely from June to August. As the plant tends to die down completely, in March it should be cut just above the ground level. Vulnerable to powdery mildew. Particularly useful for planting in a warm sunny spot. Excellent for growing over arbors, pergolas, various garden supports (e.g. trellises, stakes) and fences. Charming when grown through small trees or deciduous and coniferous shrubs.
