Attractive bell-shaped nodding flowers in June-August resembling Clematis 'Pagoda', but darker and of a deeper hue. Red-purple sepals with paler veining at the edges and yellow stamens. An undemanding cultivar that is happy with moderate soil. Vulnerable to attack from powdery mildew.
Particularly useful for growing over fences, walls, arbors, pergolas, trellises and stakes. Charming when grown through deciduous and coniferous bushes or dwarf shrubs. Suitable for large containers. Recommended to both beginning gardeners and connoisseurs.
