Very large, 20 cm across (sometimes even up to 28 cm), with 6-8 pointed, wavy-edged tepals. The upper side of the tepals lilac-blue with a pinkish bar, the underneath paler and with a white bar. Crimson anthers on pale rose filaments, getting whiter towards the base. It flowers in June on last year’s wood, and in July-September on its new wood. It climbs by means of leaf petioles. Thrives in a sunny position. Particularly useful for growing over arbours, fences, trellises, stakes and other garden supports. It can also climb natural supports.
