A highly attractive Japanese cultivar of double, pink flowers 10-14 cm in diameter, consisting of numerous sepals varying from elliptic to narrow – needle-shaped, bright-pink, sometimes nearly red that acquire green splashes in cold weather. Stamens and staminodia are of green hue but they turn pink when full blown. Free-flowering from May till June. Flowers cover the plant tightly, nearly from the very bottom to the top. Light green leaves usually consist of three pointed elliptic leaflets. Reaches 1–1.5 m height. Climbs by means of leaf petiolae. Suitable for growing over obelisks and other low garden supports as well as low trellises. Well-adjusted to container cultivation.
