Bigleaf Periwinkle 'Maculata' |
A vigorous dwarf shrub covered with large (4-8 cm across), dark evergreen leaves with irregular splashes of yellow in the middle. Numerous violet-blue flowers growing from the axils sprinkle the plant from April till June and in smaller amounts till the end of summer. Thrives in fertile, humified, moist soil but also does well in average garden soil and tolerates temporary draughts. Moderately frost hardy (zone 6B/8). Even if its leaves or shoots freeze during winter, it regrows from the underground parts the way perennial plants do. An excellent ground cover suitable for semi-shaded sites as well as an annual plant grown in large containers. |
