Bigleaf Periwinkle WOJO'S JEM 'Vinwoj' |
Shrub covered with large (4-8 cm across), dark evergreen leaves with irregular creamy-white splashes in the middle. Numerous violet-blue flowers growing from the axils sprinkle the plant from April till June and in smaller amounts till the end of summer. Thrives in fertile, humified, moist soil but also does well in average garden soil and tolerates temporary draughts. Moderately frost hardy (zone 6B-8), the plant can be successfully applied in western Poland but it is also suitable in wind-sheltered areas of central Poland. Even if its leaves or shoots freeze during winter, it regrows from the underground parts the way perennial plants do. It is suitable as a ground cover and makes an attractive element of colour compositions with its green-white leaves adding both colour and contrast. It can be also grown as an annual plant in large containers on balconies, terraces etc. |
