The latest cultivar from Szczepan Marczyński's collection, with dark purple-violet, velvety flowers 10-12 cm in diameter, consisting of 6 (sometimes 4-5) rhomboid, pointy sepals, dark violet underneath with a pink bar along the middle. Stamens have purple-violet anthers on creamy-green filaments. Flowers borne profusely from mid-June till the beginning of August and continue more sparsely until October. Leaves single or 3-5-foliate, up to 21 cm long and 19 cm wide, leaflets of lackluster green colour are about 8 cm long and 6 cm wide. New leaves have purple margins, new shoots are also purple and the old ones – brown. The plant reaches 3-3.5 m height. Climbs by leaf petioles. It is an undemanding, robust cultivar. Useful for creating covers by growing over fences, arbours, trellises and other tall garden supports. It can also climb over natural supports, such as large shrubs or trees. Looks particularly attractive against light background. |
