Early Large-flowered GroupClematis 'Whoopi' |
An interesting cultivar with striking purple red flowers with a lighter bar along the midrib turning whit towards the centre. Flowers are 6-8 cm in diameter and consist of 4-6 sepals of attractively waved edges. Stamens have creamy-yellow anthers on greenish filaments. Flowers are borne in May-June and reappear in August-September. Leaves are single or trifoliate, dark green. New shoots are purple-green and the old ones – brown. The plant reaches 1.5-2 m height. Climbs by leaf petioles. It is useful for growing over low fences, trellises, poles and other garden supports. It can also climb over natural supports, such as deciduous and coniferous shrubs and dwarf shrubs that don't require hard pruning. Thrives in well-lit sites. Looks particularly attractive against light background. Suitable for container cultivation. |
